Jeffrey Hornstein is a partner and Managing Director in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group. Mr. Hornstein joined PJSC in 1993 and has over 23 years experience in mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, leveraged financings, private placements and restructurings. He has considerable knowledge of the retail and consumer industries having advised on more than 60 transactions totaling over $55 billion in these areas. Mr. Hornstein advised the Board of Directors of The May Department Stores Company on its $17.2 billion merger with Federated Department Stores, Inc. – the largest retail transaction in U.S. history, and advised Lands’ End, Inc. on its $1.9 billion sale to Sears Roebuck & Co. –the largest direct marketing transaction in U.S. history. Recently, Mr. Hornstein advised Phillips-Van Heusen Corp. on its $3.1 billion acquisition of Tommy Hilfiger, Tween Brands, Inc. on its $350 million merger with Dress Barn, Inc., Cost Plus, Inc. in the successful defense of a $200 million unsolicited offer from Pier 1 Imports, Inc., and a committee of independent directors of The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company in its $175 million investment from Tengelmann Group and The Yucaipa Companies. Mr. Hornstein also has advised such leading retail and consumer companies as Regis Corporation, The TJX Companies, Inc., Barnes & Noble, Inc., Chico’s FAS, Inc., J. Jill Group, Inc. and Redcats USA (PPR Group). Prior to joining PJSC, Mr. Hornstein served in the Investment Banking Department at Kidder, Peabody & Co. Mr. Hornstein received an M.B.A. from Harvard University and a B.A. from Yale University, graduating magna cum laude.
