Mr. Brown, a Managing Director, is a skilled legislative strategist with nearly 20 years of public affairs experience. He brings to the firm an expertise in Senate procedure and a wide range of policy issues, gained from his work in the United States Senate Democratic leadership and his service in state government, among other things. Prior to joining BKSH & Associates, Mr. Brown served as a principal at a major Washington, D.C. public affairs consulting firm. Before that, he served for four years as a floor assistant to former Senate Democratic Leader Thomas Daschle (D-SD). In that position, he helped manage all aspects of Senate floor activity and provided in-depth counsel on parliamentary procedure and legislative strategy to Senator Daschle, the other members of the Democratic caucus and their staffs. In addition, he worked directly with the Leader’s personal staff to promote and protect his legislative priorities on the Senate floor. Mr. Brown was previously an issues director for Senator Daschle’s 1992 re-election campaign. His responsibilities included designing and implementing candidate and opposition research strategies and briefing the Senator prior to candidate debates. Before moving to the national political scene, he served in state government. In 1990 to 1991, Mr. Brown served Texas Governor Ann Richards as an assistant on her transition team and then as a legislative analyst in her Economic Development and International Trade Office. He previously served as a legislative analyst in the Maryland Governor’s Office of Federal Relations. Mr. Brown holds a master’s degree in public affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Kenyon College. He has also studied at Georgetown University.
