Mr. Wing was a corporate and civic director and a professional investor. He provided senior leadership to the securities and financial services industry in Chicago for many years. Mr. Wing had a long history with The Chicago Corporation and was instrumental in growing the original firm into a full-service regional investment banking and brokerage firm during his tenure as its CEO from 1981 until its merger with ABN-AMRO in January 1997. He became Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of ABN-AMRO Incorporated following the merger. Following service in the US Army, Mr. Wing started his career in finance in 1960 working for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In 1966, he joined Investors Diversified Services in Minneapolis as Assistant to the President. In 1968, Mr. Wing moved to Chicago to become the Vice President and General Counsel of A. G. Becker & Co. From 1975 to 1980, Mr. Wing was President of A. G. Becker & Co., a subsidiary of The Becker Warburg Paribas Group. During this time, Mr. Wing was Director of the Midwest Stock Exchange (1974-1976), Director of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (1976-1978 and 1981–1998), and Governor of the National Association of Securities Dealers (1978-1980). While at The Chicago Corporation, he served as a member of the New York Stock Exchange Regional Firms Committee and Chairman of same (1985-1986), Director of the Securities Industry Association (1984-1986), and Member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange's special panel to review trading rules and practices (1989). He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Futures Industry Association from 1990-2000, and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Futures Association from 1998-2000. In 2004, he was elected to the Futures Industry "Hall of Fame." Mr. Wing was also a civic leader. He served as Chairman of the Board of the North Shore Country Day School (1980-1987). He was the Frank Wakely Gunsaulus Professor of Law and Finance at the Illinois Institute of Technology from 1987 to 2000. He was a Director of Ravinia Festival, a Director and former Chairman of the Illinois Humanities Council and a Director of Rush University Medical Center. Mr. Wing graduated from Union College in 1958 with a B.A. in Economics and attended George Washington University Law School earning his J.D. in 1963. In 2005, he received a Masters of Liberal Arts degree from the University of Chicago. In addition to his wife Joan, Mr. Wing is survived by a son, Willy Montgomery; two daughters, Elisabeth Montgomery and Mary Ellen Flaherty; a brother, Thomas; two sisters, Clara Stewart Wing and Alice Wing Ferrier; and nine grandchildren.
