Susan Goodman Novick

Susan Goodman Novick, a fourth-generation El Pasoan, returned to her hometown in August 2001 after spending sixteen years in Washington, DC. While working as a development officer at the National Academy of Sciences, she attended The Catholic University of America, receiving a Master of Library Sciences (M.L.S.) degree with a concentration in archives and special collections in 1997. In addition to her library degree, Ms. Novick has an A.B. in History from Smith College and a Master of Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a member of the Academy of Certified Archivists. In 1996, Ms. Novick spearheaded an effort to donate the records of the Popular Dry Goods Company, the largest locally-owned retail enterprise in El Paso, to the Special Collections Department at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Library. After the store closed in November 1995, Ms. Novick served as liaison between the family that owned The Popular and the Special Collections staff. From 2001 to 2006, she served as Director of Collections for the Paso al Norte Museum at UTEP, and served as an Archivist/Manuscripts Librarian at the UTEP Library from 2003 to 2006. She coordinated the Casasola Project with the El Paso Times and processed manuscript collections relevant to immigration history and women’s organizations. Ms. Novick serves as a trustee of Smith College, as the president of the Society of Southwest Archivists, as a member of Museums and Cultural Affairs Department Advisory Committee for the City of El Paso, and as a member of the Content Committee of the El Paso Holocaust Museum and Study Center. She has also served on the Advisory Board of the El Paso Museum of History and on the board of the Texas Jewish Historical Society.
