Dr. Kristin Fabbe is an Assistant Professor of Government at Claremont McKenna College, where she teaches courses on International Relations, Comparative Politics of the Middle East, Religion and Politics, and Women Leaders in the Middle East. Dr. Fabbe received her PhD in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012, with subfield specializations in Comparative Politics and Social Science Research Methods. She also holds an MSc (with Distinction) in International Relations from the London School of Economics. She is currently at work on her forthcoming book, Disciples of the State: Varieties of Secularism in the Former Ottoman World. Her recent article on Turkish elections appeared in Nationalities Papers (2011) and she has a forthcoming article on religious pluralism in Greece in Turkey in Southeast European and Black Sea Studies (2013). Dr. Fabbe was also recently awarded a position as a Non-Resident Research Fellow at the Institute for Regional and International Studies (IRIS) at the American University in Iraq, Slemani. As part of her fellowship she is launching a study on access to capital for small businesses and the diversification of oil economies. To kick-start this project, Dr. Fabbe taught a month-long course on Women’s Empowerment at AUIS in the summer of 2013 and led a team of student researchers to conduct over 120 interviews on women’s leadership roles in business and the workforce. She is currently analyzing these interviews and crafting a paper on “Law, Cultural Norms and Access to Capital for Women in the KRG.”
