John Drew Hiatt

Mr. Hiatt is a senior communications executive, government relations strategist, and legislative adviser with two decades of experience in public affairs. Before joining Policy Impact, Hiatt served as vice president, federal government and public affairs for a leading advocacy organization. He directed the University of Chicago’s Washington Office and was executive vice president and director of government and public affairs of the National Business Owners Association. Hiatt was a speechwriter in President George H.W. Bush’s Administration. From 1983 to 1991, he held top legislative and communications positions with senior members of the Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. He handled foreign affairs, international trade, human rights, among other issues, and worked on the House Appropriations Subcommittee overseeing the Departments of State, Commerce, Justice, as well as the Office of the United States Trade Representative. Hiatt also was staff director and communications director of the House Small Business Committee. As a top congressional aide and lobbyist, Hiatt has handled appropriations, financial services, healthcare, tax, energy, transportation, trade, and telecommunications issues. He has testified before Congress, appeared on national television and radio, and been quoted in major national newspapers. In 1999, he was elected to the Loudoun County, Virginia Board of Supervisors.
