Alice worked as an actuary for 37 years, and retired in February of 2008. Until her retirement, she was an Executive Vice President and Chief Actuary for WellPoint. Her responsibilities at WellPoint also included Information Management and the Integration of Mergers and Acquisitions. She was the Chief Actuary of Blue Cross of California from 1987–1988, the Chief Actuary for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts from 1989–1993, and the Group Actuary at The New England from 1983–1987. She also worked as a consultant at Mercer early in her career and at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) prior to joining WellPoint. She served on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission for two terms from 1997 through 2004.
