On May 27, 2008, Mark L. Boxer tendered his resignation effective July 1, 2008 as the President and CEO of Operations, Technology and Government Services Business Unit and Executive Vice President of WellPoint, Inc. University of CT bio - Mark Boxer is Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for WellPoint, Inc. In this role, he is responsible for strategic planning, marketing, brand management, product development, strategic distribution, and central service operations. Mr. Boxer oversees information management and eCommerce, and manages WellPoint’s venture capital investments. Mr. Boxer also serves as President of the company’s Medicare Government Services Business Unit. Previously, Mr. Boxer was Senior Vice President of Information Technology and eBusiness at CIGNA HealthCare, and served as Chief Information Officer at Healthsource and as CIGNA HealthCare’s Vice President of Technology Operations. Before CIGNA, Mr. Boxer spent ten years with Hewlett Packard (Digital Equipment), in consulting and outsourcing, including director of strategic planning, global practice director for business process services line of business managers for U.S. and Europe managed services, and as a business unit CIO. Mr. Boxer began his career at Northeast Utilities in engineering and operations management. Mr. Boxer earned his MBA from the University of Connecticut in 1987. He holds a BS in Engineering and a BA in Physics from the University of Hartford, and he earned an MS in Information Systems from Drexel University. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is a member of the board of directors for CareMedic Systems, a Florida based software company. Mr. Boxer also serves on the board of Arcus Enterprises. He is on the editorial advisory board of Insurance and Technology Magazine and on the World Wide Electronic Data Interchange Foundation.
