KATHLEEN MATTHEWS is the anchor of ABC 7 News in Washington, D.C. She is an award-winning producer, reporter, and news anchor who has covered news in Washington, D.C. for 25 years. Matthews has been awarded nine local Emmys. Her further credits include the prestigious regional Edward R. Murrow Award, the George Peabody Award, the Scripps-Howard Award, the Associated Press Award, and the Gracie Allen Award from the American Women in Radio and Television. In 2002 she was named a "Washingtonian of the Year" by the Washingtonian Magazine. Matthews also serves on the Advisory Councils and Boards of several charitable organizations, including: The Black Student Fund, Support Our Aging Religious, Girl Scouts, Best Friends Foundation, The Mount Vernon Advisory Committee and Suited for Change which provides clothing for women in moving from welfare to work.
