Karen Redlener

Karen Redlener has had a thirty-five-year career dedicated to improving access to health care for some of the nation’s most disadvantaged children. Ms. Redlener is a founding member of the Board of the Children’s Health Fund and Executive Director of the organization. She holds a Masters of Science in Health Management and Policy from the New School University. As Executive Director of Community Pediatric Programs at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, Ms. Redlener has principal responsibility for program development, budget and oversight of its 2 major pediatric health care programs. Ms. Redlener has been the director of the New York Children’s Health Project, a program serving homeless children and families, since its inception in 1987. In this capacity, she designed the prototype mobile pediatric unit, which has served as the model for projects across the United States. In addition, Ms. Redlener served as team leader and principal developer of the South Bronx Health Center for Children and Families, a neighborhood-based health center serving a highly underserved, economically distressed community. Ms. Redlener has had extensive senior management and program development experience, including the administration of a Head Start mental health program at the Mailman Center for Child Development at the University of Miami and the development of a county-wide social service program in rural Arkansas as a VISTA volunteer.
