Paul Brathwaite joined the Podesta Group after serving as the Executive Director for the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), where he was responsible for coordinating all domestic and foreign policy legislative initiatives for the Caucus. As Executive Director, Paul worked for all 43 Members of the CBC and served three CBC Chairs, US Reps. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD) and Melvin L. Watt (D-NC). Paul has high-level contacts in both the House and Senate and provides strategic counsel to clients on telecommunications, health care, financial services, and transportation policy matters. Prior to joining the CBC in January 2001, Paul was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for the Employment Standards Administration at the US Department of Labor during the Clinton administration. Paul’s other professional experiences include working in the Department of Transportation’s General Counsel’s Honors Program, on Capitol Hill for then-Congressman Tom Carper (D-DE) and Congressman Mike Castle (R-DE), and for former New York Governor Mario Cuomo. Paul has received numerous awards during his distinguished public service, including the inaugural Brenda Pillors Award from the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding and two recent selections as one of Roll Call’s Fabulous Fifty staffers on Capitol Hill.
