Gary Torgow is the Chairman of Talmer Bancorp, Inc. He also serves as the Chairman of Talmer West Bank and is on the Board of Talmer Bank and Trust. He is also President and Founder of the Sterling Group, a Michigan-based real estate and development, investment and management company, which has acquired, developed and operated a number of important landmark properties in southeastern Michigan. Headquartered in Troy, Michigan, Talmer Bancorp (formerly First Michigan Bancorp) is the holding company for Talmer Bank and Trust and Talmer West Bank. Talmer Bancorp, Inc. has completed seven acquisitions: CF Bancorp, Port Huron, MI; First Banking Center, Lake Geneva, WI; Peoples State Bank, Madison Heights, MI; Community Central Bank, Mt. Clemens, MI; Lake Shore Bank Wisconsin, First Place Bank, Warren, OH; and Michigan Commerce Bank, Ann Arbor, MI. Talmer Bancorp is currently the third largest bank headquartered in Michigan. It operates 94 branch offices and 11 lending offices located primarily in the Midwest. Gary currently serves on the Boards of Jackson National Life Insurance Company of New York and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. He is a Trustee and Board member of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Michigan and is on the Foundation Boards of Wayne State University and Henry Ford Hospital. Mr. Torgow also serves as a Trustee on the Board of Touro College, and is the volunteer President of Michigan’s largest Jewish day school, the Yeshiva Beth Yehudah. Mr. Torgow has served as a volunteer on numerous civic and communal boards including the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, both of which he served as Chairman. Gary has won numerous awards including the Frank A. Wetsman Leadership Award from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, the NAACP’s Fannie Lou Hamer “Keeping the Spirit Moving” Award, the Fair Housing Leadership Award from the Fair Housing Center of Metro Detroit, and the Wayne State University Law School Distinguished Alumni Award. Gary is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Law and is a member in good standing of the Michigan Bar Association. Gary is married with five children.
