Paula Hawkins

A Senator from Florida; born Paula Fickes in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, January 24, 1927; attended the public schools of Salt Lake City and Richmond, Utah, and Atlanta, Ga.; attended Utah State University 1944-1947; member, Florida Public Service Commission 1972-1979; vice president, Air Florida 1979-1980; director, Rural Telephone Bank Board 1972-1978; member, President’s Commission on White House Fellowships 1975; served on Federal Energy Administration Consumer Affairs/Special Impact Advisory Committee 1974-1976; elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1980 for the six-year term commencing January 3, 1981; subsequently appointed January 1, 1981, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Richard B. Stone for the term ending January 3, 1981, and served from January 1, 1981, to January 3, 1987; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1986; is a resident of Winter Park, Fla.
