James J. Balaschak is the Energy & Resources Industry Group leader of Deloitte & Touche CIS, and Managing Partner, Consulting, CIS. He has extensive expertise in emerging markets, with experience that includes Russia and the CIS, Eastern/Central Europe, SE Asia, South and Latin America, and the Middle East. Jim is a native of the United States and, with his wife, is in his eleventh year of residency in Moscow. Jim holds several U.S. and international patents and publishes extensively. A frequent speaker at conferences, Jim is widely known as an expert on the Russian market. Jim holds B.S. in Engineering and an M.B.A. in finance and economics, and completed a full three-year Russian Language Program of the Harvard Extension University. Jim is former chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, and is current vice-chairman of finance, executive board member and board member of the chamber. Jim is also a guest lecturer on corporate strategy in the M.B.A. program at the Academy of the National Economy in Moscow. He received the American Chamber of Commerce’s Chairman’s Award in April, 2002 for significant contribution to promoting trade and investment between Russia and the United States, and was Chamber Member of the Year in 2004.
