Congressman Richard T. Schulze joined the staff of Valis Associates in 1993 as Senior Legislative Advisor. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1974, he represented Pennsylvania's 5th Congressional District for 18 years. Included in his district were portions of Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester Counties, which encompass parts of the Philadelphia metropolitan area, including Pennsylvania Dutch country and historic Valley Forge. Congressman Schulze vigorously championed American business and workers against unfair foreign competition and business practices. He fought against foreign dumping practices in the United States and successfully amended legislation that would have relaxed anti-dumping rules applied to Communist countries. His trade competitiveness bills were enacted into law, providing tax breaks for small businesses and reinstating the investment tax credit for productive equipment and machinery. In 1994, Schulze founded the New Majority Society, an organization of former Members of Congress and senior officials from the Reagan and Bush Administration. Before his service in the Congress, he was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and he held county and city elective offices. Prior to entering political life, Schulze was a businessman and is a three year veteran of the armed services. Schulze was educated at the University of Houston, Villanova University, and Temple University. He was born and raised in Philadelphia and has lived in Pennsylvania for most of his life. He is married to Nancy and has four children.
