Jon Litner was named Group President of the NBC Sports Group in February, 2011. In this role, he is responsible for the NBC Sports Regional Networks and the Golf Channel. As head of the NBC Sports Regional Networks since May 2007, Litner led the growth of the business from seven networks to 12 through a series of strategic acquisitions and new market launches. Prior to his current role, Litner served as President, VERSUS and Comcast Sports Group, where he directed all business aspects of VERSUS, including its integration into the NBC Sports Group and rebrand as the NBC Sports Network. In this role, Litner also spearheaded the strategic and operational growth of Comcast’s regional sports network business. In 2005, Litner piloted the successful launch of SNY, the regional sports network of the New York Mets, where he served as President until 2007. Prior to launching SNY, Litner was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the NHL, where he was responsible for U.S. and Canadian broadcasting, digital media, communications, special events. Litner began his career in sports television at Capital Cities/ABC, Inc., and held several executive positions from 1991 to 1999, overseeing all programming acquisitions and talent negotiations. While at ABC, Litner also led the network’s acquisition of MLB television rights in 1994 and 1995 and the creation of The Baseball Network, a joint venture with NBC, where he served as Vice President of Business Affairs. Litner is a 1985 graduate of Yale University, where he was a two-sport varsity athlete competing on the football and baseball teams. He later earned his law degree from Cornell Law School in 1988. He has been recognized by several publications for his distinguished leadership in the sports media industry, including Businessweek, Sports Business Journal and CableFax. Litner is also a member of the Little League International Board of Directors. Litner and his wife, Polly, have three children and reside in the Philadelphia area.
