Johannes Britz is Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Professor in the School of Information Studies, at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee, USA. Dr. Britz holds two doctoral degrees from the University of Pretoria in South Africa and has also been appointed as Professor Extraordinary (a title used in South Africa for distinguished researchers) at the School of Information Technology at the same institution. He is co-editor of the International Review of Information Ethics (IRIE) and serves on the editorial board of a number of academic journals. He is a member of the advisory board of the International Research Foundation for Development and he is a member of national and international committees in Higher Education. Dr. Britz has broad international experience both as a researcher and consultant. Dr. Britz has a very specific interest in social justice and information poverty and works primarily in Africa on these topics. He is the author of more than 90 scholarly publications. Most of his work is being done in close collaboration with the European Union, UNESCO and a number of African governments. He has acted as a consultant for a number of African governments as well as private sector firms. He played a key role in the development of Information Ethics in Africa and co-organized the first-ever Africa Information Ethics conference that was held in 2007 in South Africa. During 2009 he co-initiated a UNESCO and South African government funded training workshop on ethics and e-government implementation in Sub-Saharan Africa. In recognition of his work he was recently acknowledged as a finalist for the Ethics award by the World Technology Forum.
