Mr. Joerger is founder and president of the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast, which works with landowners and local governments to protect and preserve Sarasota County’s bays, beaches and barrier islands for future generations. The foundation holds conservation easements and owns nature preserves, educates on responsible land stewardship, and collaborates with individuals, organizations and communities. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Joerger continued his education at Cornell by earning a master’s degree in landscape architecture and a doctorate in environmental information science with a minor in conservation and sustainable development. Mr. Joerger began his conservation career in Albany, NY as the director of protection and project review for the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission, a public/private partnership aimed at protecting and managing the unique and endangered natural communities of the Albany Pine Bush. He later went on to become assistant state director of The Nature Conservancy in Newton, NJ.
