Bruce Reeves

Bruce Reeves joined the Department of Conservation as Chief Counsel in January, 2011, coming from the State Attorney General’s Office. Mr. Reeves was with the AG's Office for more than 11 years, serving as Deputy and Supervising Deputy Attorney General in the Natural Resources Law Section of the Public Rights Division, where he handled numerous environmental matters at the trial and appellate level. Most recently, Reeves served as a Legislative Advocate in the AG's Office of Legislative Affairs, analyzing bills and shepherding environmental legislation through the Legislature. He has also served as counsel to the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, staff counsel to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and for 13 years prior to coming to the state, was in private practice with firms in California, handling trial-level cases and appeals in both state and federal court. In his spare time, Reeves volunteers with Operation Protect and Defend, a group of lawyers and judges that visits high schools to challenge students to think critically about constitutional issues.
