The Safeguard campus in Wayne defined a generation of Philadelphia tech business. Musser is a grandfather of modern venture capital and built Safeguard Scientifics into a multi-billion-dollar powerhouse before it crumbled when the dot com bubble burst. Musser made the suburban Route 202 corridor legendary and did his business at the Radnor Hotel, an old-money regional landmark. The Safeguard campus was one that incubated nearly every IT firm of note from the 1990s. A veteran of the technology and financial industries, Pete Musser has been a leading figure in the business world as both an entrepreneur and a chief executive for more than 50 years. Pete is perhaps best known for his role at Safeguard Scientifics, Inc. As the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer from 1953 until 2001, he facilitated the formation and success of many of today’s top Fortune companies, including QVC, Comcast, Novell, Inc. and more. Today, Pete continues to serve as Chairman Emeritus of Safeguard, and is also the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Musser Group, a financial consulting company. He also remains active on a number of corporate boards as a Director of Internet Capital Group, Inc., NutriSystem, Inc., InfoLogix, Inc., and Health Benefits Direct Corp. Pete is a strong supporter of and contributor to the community at-large. He is a member of a variety of civic, educational, and charitable boards of directors, and serves as Chairman of Economics PA. Pete earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering at Lehigh University.
