Marialuisa (“ML”) Gallozzi helps clients develop and execute efficient and practical insurance recovery strategies that have yielded more than $400 million in recoveries. Through negotiation or mediation, she has achieved more than 100 confidential bilateral and multiparty settlements of underlying liability claims and insurance coverage claims against domestic, foreign and insolvent insurers and state guaranty funds. Chambers USA describes her as “incredibly good at complex settlement structures.” Ms. Gallozzi advises a wide range of companies, including those in the food, drug and medical device sectors as well as trade associations and nonprofit organizations. These settlements have included first-party coverage for flood, collapse, storm, and employee dishonesty and product contamination losses and third-party coverage for asbestos, pharmaceutical, implantable medical devices, recall, product contamination, environmental, D&O and other liabilities. Ms. Gallozzi frequently provides strategic advice to clients on their insurance rights and assets in mergers and acquisitions and in purchasing new or renewal insurance coverage. She is also one of the leads for Covington’s Strategic Risk and Crisis Management initiative, where she helps clients plan for and navigate crisis events, including product recalls. Ms. Gallozzi maintains an active pro bono practice and lectures frequently at CLE programs and in law schools. Represents multiple organizations in obtaining coverage for earthquake-related damage to historic buildings. Developed an innovative coverage theory and recovered millions from first party and third party insurers who had sued to rescind coverage for losses in connection with an international food recall. Represented a major American food supplier in complex novation transaction involving workers compensation policies. Advised several drug and food manufacturers on recovery of recall-related losses under first party and specialty product recall policies. Negotiated multi-million dollar settlements with insolvent insurers for a drug manufacturer and a utility. Advised food manufacturers on the procurement of specialty coverage for contamination and tampering risks. Advised biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and clinical trials organization on coverage under clinical trials policies. Secured a policy limits recovery for an employee dishonesty loss suffered by a nonprofit. Represented a financial services company in recovering for its property and business interruption losses caused by the September 11 terrorist attacks.
