After graduating from the Wharton School in 1970, Henry (Hap) Perry went to work for his family's businesses. He took on a variety of operational roles, leading start-up and turn-around situations in industries ranging from modular housing to sub-sea engineering to cable television. In addition to managing the family enterprises, he started a number of businesses on his own in the cable television, automobile, medical and real estate fields. After selling most of the operations in the 1980s, the management of his family's liquid wealth became more of an increasing concern. In 1989, after 18 months of research, he began Asset Management Advisors, Inc. for himself and other members of his family. Asset Management Advisors, now known as GenSpring Family Offices, is a pioneer of the family office industry and is currently one the largest multi-family offices in the United States. Hap is currently chairman emeritus of GenSpring and an active member of GenSpring's Investment Committee.
