Lisa Marrello is a lawyer and a skilled lobbyist with years of experience representing high-profile clients on matters dealing with all aspects of legislative policy, budgetary analysis, appropriations funding, procurement, and administrative and regulatory matters. She is a resolute advocate for her clients before the New York State Governor’s Office, Legislature, and executive agencies as well as federal and municipal governments throughout the state. Drawing on nearly 20 years of legal and legislative practice, Lisa has gained the confidence of clients who rely on her successes in government policy, process and advocacy. Lisa brings to the table a clear understanding of the issues and the laws surrounding them in order to educate key policymakers and lend credibility to her client’s position. She maintains professional contacts with federal, state and local government officials, having served in both New York State and New York City government. Prior to joining the firm, Lisa worked in the Mayor’s Legislative Office under former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani as a lobbyist for the City of New York, successfully advocating on behalf of the New York City Police Department, Fire Department, Department of Investigations, Department of Law and other mayoral agencies. Lisa began her career with the New York State Assembly as chief of staff and counsel to the chairman of the Standing Committee on Housing, where she negotiated housing policy on behalf of the chairman. She has been integral to the continued growth of the firm’s Albany practice, offering representation to clients in issue areas, such as racing and gaming, that have not traditionally been served by the practice. Lisa’s breadth and scope of experience and proven successes are evidenced by her long-standing relationships with her clients. Whether representing a client seeking legislative relief or negotiating with a state agency for reprieve from a regulatory burden, Lisa has cultivated the necessary experience and capabilities in government policy and process to effectively address her clients’ issues. On the regulatory front, Lisa recently negotiated with the New York Tax and Finance Department to achieve a significant reduction in a client’s tax liability. Legislatively, Lisa has successfully advocated for the inclusion of a tax credit in the NYS tax code for a client association, resulting in greater economic activity in the commercial production field, particularly with out-of-state companies. Lisa was named to the Albany Law School’s Government Law Center Racing and Gaming Committee, the country’s first full-time racing and gaming law program dedicated to law and policy study on all aspects of gaming.
