Jonathan Thomas has served as president and chief executive officer of American Century Investments since 2007. As the company's highest-ranking executive, Mr. Thomas, who also leads the firm’s management committee, is responsible for creating, communicating and implementing American Century Investments’ strategic vision, mission and overall direction. Mr. Thomas reports to and is also a member of the firm's Board of Directors. Mr. Thomas joined American Century in 2005 as chief financial officer and executive vice president and a member of the American Century Companies Board of Directors. As CFO/EVP, Mr. Thomas' core responsibilities included overseeing the firm's financial, portfolio accounting, retail sales, audit and administrative functions. Mr. Thomas has also served as the chief investment officer for the company. Prior to joining American Century, Mr. Thomas was global chief operating officer for Morgan Stanley's Investment Management division in New York City. While at Morgan Stanley, Mr. Thomas also served as president of Morgan Stanley Trust Company, chief administrative officer in charge of Operations, Strategy and Products, and chief risk officer for Investment Management. Mr. Thomas began his career in the asset management industry at Fidelity Investments and later held senior leadership positions at Bank of America, where he oversaw operations for both the asset and wealth management divisions of the bank and led a variety of acquisition/integration initiatives. He also served in senior roles at Boston Financial Data Services (BFDS), and First Data Corporation (FDC). Mr. Thomas graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and earned a master’s degree in business administration from Boston College. Mr. Thomas is a member of the Board of Governors at the Investment Company Institute and also serves on the Bio Med Valley Discoveries' Board of Directors. He is a past board member of the Kansas City Zoo and the American Royal.
