William "Bill" Steigerwaldt, 91, passed away on Sept. 23, 2016, at Glenbrook Hospital, Glenview, Ill. Bill was the youngest son born to Volga-German immigrants, Henry and Sofia (nee Hoppe) Steigerwaldt. Bill graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago, Ill., served in the Army Air Corp during World War II, and trained and flew the famous B17 Flying Fortress bomber. He was stationed in Nevada and California. Bill worked in the family construction business, Steigerwaldt Construction Company, in Chicago, Ill. He also served as a longtime member of the Board of Directors of Jockey International, Inc. He married the love of his life, Donna Wolf (former Chairman/CEO of Jockey International, Inc.) on Dec. 31, 1969. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2000. Bill was the beloved husband of the late Donna Wolf Steigerwaldt; father to William Henry (Lois) Steigerwaldt, Jill (John) Cooke, Debra S. (Charles) Waller, Linda Steigerwaldt; grandfather to Stephanie (Rob) Steigerwaldt, Meighan Steigerwaldt, William E. Waller, Lindsey (Steve) Thusius (nee Waller), Jodie (Andrew) Thusius (nee Waller), Alyssa (Michael) Billings, Angela Davis, Taylor Davis, Nicholas Steigerwaldt; great grandfather to Ilona Steigerzats; and brother of Lydia (Robert) Olson (nee Steigerwaldt). Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Sofia (nee Hoppe) Steigerwaldt; sister Emily (Henry) Schmidt (nee Steigerwaldt); and brothers, Henry (Annabelle) Steigerwaldt, Frederick (Theresa) Steigerwaldt, and Alexander (Anne) Steigerwaldt.
