Michele Hovey, M.Div., has over thirty years experience as a community activist primarily in the areas of public health, education, social justice ministry, and support to families in poverty. She is a founder and director of International Peace Initiatives (IPI), an NGO based in Kenya and Denver that has a primary focus on care for children orphaned by AIDS. IPI also works with grassroots community programs for health, education, economic sustainability, and conflict resolution training. IPI opened the Amani Children's Home in August 2009 to create a home for and educate orphaned and vulnerable children. An experienced convener, she facilitated International Women's Conferences in Kenya in 2005 and 2009. She serves as adjunct faculty for the Masters of Social Change degree program at the Iliff Graduate School of Theology. Michele is a founding board member of SStS and helped to implement the first SStS trip to Kenya.
