Mike Lang is President of Lang Media Group, an advisory and sponsor equity firm focused on the media space — both traditional and digital/technology. LMG advises clients on strategic issues, M&A, organizational needs and capital raises. LMG has achieved significant success this last year — including a $20M capital raise for FilmTrack (SaaS rights management software company) from Insight Venture Partners, and most recently the successful sale of the Harlem Globetrotters (Mike was an active Board member, working closely with Shamrock Capital and the CEO to lead a turnaround that included record attendance/revenue this last year). Other LMG clients include: Chernin Entertainment, Bertelsmann, FullScreen (largest YouTube multi-channel network) and several start-ups. Mike serves on the Board of FilmTrack as well as Foundation 9 (multi-platform games developer). Mike’s operating experience was as CEO at the film studio Miramax, taking a company with zero employees and low expectations to generating over $175M in annual profit and $400M+ in new multi-year license deals. Within 18-months, the Miramax investors earned most of their equity investment back via a debt refinancing. Prior to Miramax, Mike ran Business Development & Strategy for Fox Entertainment, reporting to then CEO Peter Chernin, where his accomplishments included the creation of the online video site Hulu, the acquisition of MySpace and launching several new cable channels. Before Fox, Mike ran his own consulting firm and founded an early-stage Internet start-up. His media career started in the early 90s at The Walt Disney Company in Corporate Strategic Planning and several operating roles. Mike earned his MBA at the Harvard Business School, graduating with high distinction as a Baker Scholar. His undergraduate degree is from Claremont McKenna College, where he currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Kravis Leadership Institute.
