Shapiro, whose home is in New York City, is the CEO of Novation Ventures in West Palm Beach, Fla. He was CEO of Encore Financial Services Group Inc. for more than 10 years before his current position. Before that, he was general counsel for Singer Asset Finance and a California-based partner at Morrison & Foerster, an international law firm. He is a past board member of the New York Fair Housing Coalition and, as a lawyer, provided pro bono legal representation for Greenpeace USA, the Los Angeles NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the California Association of Low Wealth Districts, and the California Appellate Project (representing "death row" inmates). Shapiro earned a B.A. in economics from Swarthmore, then a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and has been on the Board since 2009. He is married to Kate Levin.
