The son of Vaughan Furniture founder Taylor G. Vaughan Sr. and Blanche Bassett Vaughan, John Vaughan joined the company in June 1954 and spent his 45-year career involved in all facets of the business. He worked as vice president from 1954-1955, executive vice president 1956-1976, president 1976-1995, CEO 1992-1999, and chairman from 1997-2005. He retired in June, 1999, and was a member of the board of directors until his death. He also was a member of the board of Webb Enterprises from 1976-2005, and served as CEO from 1996-2005. Survivors include his wife Anne Butler Vaughan; sons and daughters-in-law, William Bunyan and Jennifer Vaughan, and John David and Elizabeth Vaughan Sr.; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Hundley Vaughan and Michael Stevens and Amy Clark Vaughan and Dr. Michael Russell; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
