Christopher B Cowan

Christopher Cowan is a Director of International Project Finance for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), a self-sustaining agency of the U.S. government based in Washington, D.C., that provides financing and political risk insurance for companies investing in the emerging markets of Asia, Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Chris has over twenty years of banking experience and is currently focused on financing small & medium enterprises in OPIC’s Finance Department. He is responsible for originating, structuring and executing loans to projects in several business sectors, including transportation, tourism, telecommunications, mining, power generation, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and manufacturing. Chris has completed financings in each of the geographic regions that OPIC serves. He holds a BA in Business with a concentration in Finance from Morehouse College and an MBA in Multinational Management from the Wharton School of Business. He also has a certificate in International Business from the Stockholm School of Economics. Chris has served on the boards of The Washington Ballet (Washington, D.C.), where he has served on the Finance and Marketing committees; the Holy Cross Hospital (Silver Spring, MD); the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, a performing arts high school (Washington, D.C.); the D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities (an appointment by the Mayor of Washington, D.C.); the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation (Baltimore, MD). He is a member of the Leadership Greater Washington class of 2010. He currently serves on the Morehouse College Board of Trustees (Atlanta, GA) and the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA).
