Torrance Refining Company LLC operates the Torrance Refinery, a 700-acre facility in Torrance that began operations in 1929 and has been owned by PBF Energy since 2016. The refinery employs over 600 workers plus hundreds of contractors and processes roughly 155,000–166,000 barrels of crude oil per day, producing about 1.8 billion gallons of gasoline annually—around 20% of Southern California’s gasoline demand and 10% statewide. In addition to gasoline, it produces diesel, jet fuel, LPGs, coke, and sulfur, with a pipeline directly supplying Los Angeles International Airport. The facility is a major economic anchor, paying millions annually in local property and utility taxes, supporting thousands of indirect jobs, and maintaining extensive community partnerships focused on education, public safety, environmental programs, and civic engagement.
