Oregon Just Transition Alliance was founded in 2017 by OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon to help build a powerful statewide movement for a just transition. In 2017, OJTA organized the first Just Transition Assembly to start to bring organizations together across the state to talk about what a Just Transition means and what it should look like in our communities. For the next three years, OJTA organized webinars and annual three-day Just Transition retreats with frontline-led community organizations and allies, to build a shared analysis about the ecological crises we face, as well as shared strategies for a Just Transition. In 2019, members of OJTA came together to put forth a draft platform for an Oregon Green New Deal, recognizing that it was a living document that needed further community input. In 2020, OJTA launched the Frontline Organizers Rising (FLOR) cohort, which organized a statewide Oregon Green New Deal Listening Tour; virtual listening sessions across the state to inform our next iteration of the Oregon Green New Deal. In August of 2020, OJTA spun off from OPAL to become an independent statewide alliance. The OJTA Steering Committee endorsed the Energy Democracy campaign as our first joint campaign as an alliance. We look forward to continuing to grow in our collective power and invite you to join us in building a powerful movement for a just transition in Oregon.
