Trump has formed a new political action committee geared toward retaining power in the Republican Party and maintaining the large base of support he has across the country, despite his projected loss in the presidential election. "The president always planned to do this, win or lose, so he can support candidates and issues he cares about, such as combating voter fraud," Tim Murtaugh, spokesman for the Trump campaign, said in a statement. The Save America PAC has been derided by campaign-finance experts as “essentially a type of slush fund, with few restrictions” on how the money can be spent. In June 2023 a New York Times article, explained how Trump “has quietly begun diverting more of the money he is raising away from his 2024 presidential campaign and into a political action committee that he has used to pay his personal legal fees.”
