1. Mission Statement The mission of the National Association for Justice Information Systems (NAJIS) is to provide educational opportunities and resources to local and state level justice information sharing practitioners and system users to improve justice and public safety in the United States. The goals of NAJIS are to promote the diffusion of knowledge and continuing education by: maintaining forums to exchange ideas and lessons-learned among a peer network of local, state and tribal justice practitioners; hosting an annual conference that facilitates networking and educational opportunities to exchange ideas and share case studies and knowledge re: research, trends, best practices, national standards, emerging technologies and lessons learned; and publishing and disseminating presentations and other instructional materials generated through its educational activities to justice practitioners and the public. 2. Organization Summary NAJIS is an organization focused on providing current and timely information regarding the acquisition, operation, policy and management of local, state, tribal and federal criminal justice information systems. NAJIS began in 1981 and is focused on the promotion of integrated justice information sharing and leveraging new technologies. Since its inception, NAJIS has hosted 33 annual educational conferences within jurisdictions across the United States. The conferences serve as a forum where justice practitioners can learn about state of the art technologies that impact the justice domain and NAJIS Organization Update 2.16 1 related topics affecting the adoption and use of technology to improve justice system operations Justice system practitioners, including but not limited to, prosecutors, judicial officers, law enforcement, probation and parole staff, corrections staff along with allied agencies who design, improve, implement or supervise automated information systems benefit from participating in NAJIS convenings and activities. Individuals who are investigating, evaluating and/ or purchasing automated systems (i.e. hardware and software) for criminal justice purposes are encouraged to participate in NAJIS activities.
