Built with proceeds from AFICA bond issuances in 2000. Originally owned by Sol Melia (now Melia Hotels International). Started operations in 2004 as Paradisus Coco Beach Resort. In 2007 became Gran Melia. Significantly damaged by Hurricane Maria in 2017. Closed until December 2018. Sold to Monarch Alternative Capital and Royal Palms Companies for $120 million in June 2019.
