History and Mission The Joseph and Vera Zilber Charitable Foundation, Inc. is a private, independent grantmaking institution dedicated to enhancing the well-being of individuals, families, and neighborhoods. Its founder, Joseph J. Zilber, was born and raised in Milwaukee. He attended Milwaukee public schools and Marquette University, where he met his wife, Vera. They lived and raised their children in Milwaukee, the home and headquarters of Zilber Ltd., a company that specializes in residential and commercial development and property management in Wisconsin and throughout the United States. The Zilber Family Foundation supports nonprofit organizations, especially those in the City of Milwaukee, to: • address basic needs and help ensure personal safety • increase access to social and economic opportunity • improve the quality of life in neighborhoods The Foundation is governed by an eight-member board of directors and professionally managed by a staff of five.
