Founded in 2011 by a diverse group of passionate volunteers, Miller Beach Arts & Creative District is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization, operating as a community development corporation. The organization operates a 6,000 square foot facility, the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts, as a space for the presentation of a wide variety of visual and performing arts, along with an active schedule of other community events. A sample of events include hosting the Beadtown Exhibit with Stephan Wanger from New Orleans, Alvin Ailey dance troupe from New York, our biennial public art street festival, annual Sandcastle Competition, annual sand mandala creation by Tibetan monks, cultural documentary films, annual Chorus Angelorum classical music concert, Farmers Market (May-September), and Pop Up artisan fairs. Many events are offered at no or minimal cost, and all are open to the public – everyone is welcome! We are located at 540 S. Lake Street in the Miller Beach neighborhood of Gary, IN - a short rail ride from downtown Chicago on the southernmost shores of Lake Michigan. Miller Beach has a long history as a creative community and is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. The District, which stretches along Lake Street to the beaches of Lake Michigan, is also home to a diverse variety of small local businesses. We invite you to become involved in whichever way you feel most comfortable – such as exhibiting, performing, volunteering, serving on a committee, teaching a class or workshop, donating to help fund operations and programming, sponsoring a specific event, attending an event, and more!
