In 1918, the grandfather of Austin Industries' current chairman, William Solomon, founded Austin Bridge Company. Today Austin Industries is a large, diversified construction company with three subsidiaries—Austin Bridge & Road, Austin Commercial and Austin Industrial. These divisions engage in civil, commercial and industrial construction. Austin Industries builds commercial and industrial projects such as office buildings, semiconductor factories, airport terminals and petrochemical plants. Dallas projects include the 72-story Bank of America Plaza, the 56-story Texas Commerce Tower and the American Airlines Center (home of the NBA Dallas Mavericks and NHL Dallas Stars). The company became 100% employee owned in 2000.
