R.H. "Curly" Emmerson founded the predecessor of Sierra Pacific Industries in the late 1920s. With his son "Red" Emmerson, he built Sierra Pacific into one of the largest lumber companies in the United States. Sierra Pacific, a fully integrated lumber producer, owns 1.7 million acres of timberland throughout California and Washington.
