Roger W. Jepsen, an Iowa Republican and Reagan administration ally who served one term in the Senate before losing a 1984 re-election bid after it was revealed that he had joined a private health spa that was later shut down on prostitution charges, died on Friday November 13 2020 in Bettendorf, Iowa. He was 91. A Senator from Iowa; born in Cedar Falls, Black Hawk County, Iowa, December 23, 1928; attended the public schools; attended the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls; graduated from Arizona State University, Tempe, Ariz., in 1950, and received a masters degree from the same university in 1953; paratrooper in the United States Army 1946-1947; United States Army Reserve 1948-1960; active in farming and the insurance and health care businesses; Scott County Supervisor 1962-1965; Iowa State senator 1966-1968; lieutenant governor of Iowa 1968-1972; elected as a Republican to the United States Senate, November 7, 1978, and served from January 3, 1979, to January 3, 1985; unsuccessful candidate for reelection; co-chairman, Joint Economic Committee (Ninety-eighth Congress); chairman, National Credit Union Administration; is a resident of Alexandria, Va. Mr. Jepsen married Dorothy Lambertson in 1948 and had four children with her. The marriage ended in divorce. In 1958, he married Dee Ann Delaney, who had a daughter, Linda, by a previous marriage. Linda died in 1996. In addition to his wife and son Craig, from his first marriage, he is survived by another son from his first marriage, Jeffrey; two daughters from his first marriage, Ann Carruthers and Debbie Geisler; a son from his second marriage, Coy; his sister, Carol Nymann; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
