Games for Change was founded in 2004 “to
empower game creators and social innovators
to drive real-world change using games and
technology that help people to learn, improve
their communities, and contribute to make
the world a better place.”40 Academic centers
such as University of Southern California’s
Game Innovation Lab (2004) and Arizona
State University’s Center for Games & Impact
(2011) launched with a focus to expand the
body of research and talent pipeline leveraging
games for the public good. These efforts
were rewarded when in 2013 the American
Psychological Association published research
on the positive learning, health, and social
benefits of video games.41 |
