Shan is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Chinastone Capital Management Limited in Beijing. Prior to Chinastone, he was Vice Chairman for Investment Banking at UBSAG in Hong Kong. Previously Shan was a partner in San Shan (HK) Limited and prior to that he was Vice Chairman of China Overseas-Educated Scholars Development Foundation and Founding Partner of San Shan Capital Partners. He has also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Bank of China International Holdings Limited; Managing Director for Head of China Investment Banking of Lehman Brothers (Asia); Deputy Head of Investment Bank Preparation Committee of China Development Bank; Executive Director of the Advisory Group at Goldman Sachs International (London); Executive Director of Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs (Asia); Executive Director of Economic Research Department at Goldman Sachs (Asia); International Economist at Goldman Sachs & Co. (New York); and Associate of Global Foreign Exchange Trading at CS First Boston. Shan is a regular commentator and author of various influential local and international mass media and publications on areas concerning China's economic development and policy. He has lectured in universities around the world on related topics. Shan has a Ph. D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; a M.A. in Economics, from the University of California, Davis; and a B.S. in Management Information Systems from Tsinghua University in Beijing. Shan is a member of the 2007 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.
