Bechtel National, the government services arm of engineering giant Bechtel Group, helps the US destroy stockpiles of nuclear and chemical weapons and treat contaminated wastes. It has worked toward developing a national repository for nuclear waste in Nevada and it also helped the US defense program by managing the awarding of certain subcontracts in Iraq. Bechtel and the University of California manage and operate two to institutions for nuclear and scientific research labs -- Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California. Among the other governmental agencies it works with are NASA, the EPA, and the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
