Notes Chris Cerf State Education Chiefs Chris Cerf is a Board Member of the State Education Chiefs at RIDGE-LANE LP. Mr. Cerf served as the Commissioner of Education for the State of New Jersey, under Governor Chris Christie. He oversaw 2,500 public schools with 1.4 million students and 110,000 teachers in 574 districts, with a $35 billion budget. He was Superintendent of the Newark public schools, and Deputy Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education where he led organizational strategy, innovation, labor relations and all matters pertaining to recruiting, supporting, developing and evaluating 80,000 teachers and 1.1 million students. He served as New York City Chancellor Joel Klein’s Chief Advisor on Transformation, where he led efforts to redesign the financial and organizational structure of the nation’s largest school district. Previously, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Edison Schools, Inc, and Chief Executive Officer of Amplify Insight, and as Associate Counsel to U.S. President Bill Clinton. Mr. Cerf currently serves on the Board of Directors of several companies in the K-12 education. He earned a B.A. from Amherst College and J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. He served as a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.
