Notes Justice Reinvestment Initiative justice reinvestment initiative header image_justice policy center The Justice Reinvestment Initiative is a partnership with states committed to using their criminal justice data to design and implement innovative, data-driven, and comprehensive approaches to reduce crime, cut recidivism rates, and direct resources toward more cost-effective safety strategies. States that participate in JRI receive technical assistance to analyze the factors driving correctional populations and costs—information that helps each state identify its own set of targeted solutions to reduce recidivism and improve return on investment. Prior to our work on the current JRI initiative, we developed a body of work around Justice Reinvestment at the Local Level, including a guidebook and two toolkits for practitioners based on our experience implementing reforms in three pilot jurisdictions.
