Rev. Bill Golderer, Lead Pastor for Vision
Since Bill arrived at ASPC in the Fall of 2008, he has been convinced that through our worship and work this congregation is entering its most vibrant chapter in its long history. Under his leadership, ASPC is fast becoming blessing to its members, the surrounding neighborhood, the city and the larger world.
What inspires Bill more than anything is the challenge of helping to lead such a diverse community into a future that God is preparing even now. Bill has a passion for the intersection of faith and entrepreneurship, and engaging deeply with the problems and possibilities of cities. He loves helping people discover their gifts, abilities and the unique contribution they can make to the world.
Bill founded Broad Street Ministry in 2005. BSM is an innovative community that fosters hospitality, civic engagement, and creative expression (see Faith in Action section for more on BSM). He remains on BSM's Board of Directors after resigning his post in 2015 to seek a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Bill is also a founding partner in the Rooster Soup Company. Rooster Soup is the nation's first crowd-funded, for-profit restaurant where 100% of its profits will go to alleviate the suffering of those who are experiencing homelessness and hunger. Mayor Michael Nutter appointed Bill to serve as the Founding Chair of the Philadelphia Food Access Collaborative. The Food Access Collaborative is designed to help individuals and providers navigate the vast landscape of emergency food assistance in Philadelphia to maximize effectiveness. The PFAC is a collaboration among emergency food providers, social services and behavioral health organizations, community members, city government, emergency meal guests and philanthropic organizations working to combat hunger.
Currently, Bill serves as a sought after speaker and lecturer. He is a past presenter at workshops and conferences including the 2015 Welcome Conference (his remarks can be found here). He also has taught at the Wharton School of Business, Princeton Theological Seminary and written articles for national publications.
Earlier, Bill served as the founding Director of the Center for Church Life at Auburn Theological Seminary in New York City, where he was also a lecturer in Reformed theology at Union Theological Seminary. Prior to his work in New York, Bill served as Associate Pastor at the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago. His time there was spent integrating the Gospel with the demands of everyday life through fellowship, advocacy/outreach programs, public forums, and discernment exercises. Bill was also the Founding Director for Religious Outreach for The Interfaith Alliance in Washington D.C. This membership organization that has grown to over 150,000 members to promote interfaith cooperation around shared American values of civic participation, freedom of religion, diversity, and civility in public discourse and to encourage the active involvement of people of faith in the nation’s political life. www.interfaithalliance.org.
