She has continued to gather information on the positive influences of early intervention. Her work with the Abecedarian Project, which began with a group of infants in 1972, has followed these children as they have aged into adulthood. Findings from this study are frequently cited by experts and policymakers when discussing the importance of quality early child care. She has also conducted research on how children in Head Start make the transition to public school. Among her many accomplishments, Dr. Campbell served as a member of the White House Conference on Early Literacy and a member of the Pritzker Consortium on Early Childhood Development. Dr. Campbell received the 2007 Alumni Distinguished Service Award from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
