• Conceptualized, organized, and directed the $15 million Global Learning XPRIZE sponsored by Elon Musk, in which 200 teams from 40 countries competed to develop open source software and learning content designed to bring children in the least developed countries from illiteracy to literacy in reading, writing, and numeracy within 15 months
• Managed an international staff dedicated to the design and implementation of field-testing the finalists’ entries with 3,000 children in 150 remote villages in Sub-Saharan Africa
• Worked with governments, international institutions, and other stakeholders to ensure that the prize is conducted ethically and fairly
• Served as lead spokesman with the press, donors, and the public to advocate for the idea that learning technology can radically expand access to quality education even for the poorest and most remote children on Earth
• Wrote the prize guidelines and operational plan, and helped raise $27 million for both the prize purse and for operations from a total of ten donors
• Led the XPRIZE Civil Society Domain which develops incentivized competitions in all areas touching and concerning civil society such as transparency, corruption, voting, and others. |
