Notes Greg Avis Interim President, Silicon Valley Community Foundation Greg AvisGreg Avis is interim president of Silicon Valley Community Foundation and managing partner of Bangtail Partners, a private investment firm. He is a cofounder and former managing director of Summit Partners, one of the nation’s leading private equity and venture capital firms, which has raised over $15 billion in capital since its inception. He began serving as interim president of SVCF on April 30, 2018. Greg has served on the boards of more than 40 public and private companies. His nonprofit work has included service on the boards of Williams College (chair), Cleveland Clinic, ITHAKA, the James Irvine Foundation (chair), MASS MoCA, the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), New Profit, Opportunity Fund (chair), the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Silicon Valley Community Foundation (chair, in 2007) and the Sobrato Family Foundation. Through Bangtail Partners, Greg has recently spearheaded a number of projects in Montana and environs, including the rejuvenation of three hotels and a theater, and the development of a workforce housing project. Greg has also taught mathematics at Eastside College Preparatory School in East Palo Alto for 17 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in political economy from Williams College and a master’s degree in Business Administration, with distinction, from Harvard Business School.
