Mr. Capers, whose father and brother both served in the New York Police Department, has spent more than two decades as a prosecutor. He has served in the Eastern District since 2003 and currently works as a senior prosecutor in the district’s public integrity unit.
On October 8, 2015, Robert L. Capers was nominated by President Barack Obama to be the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. On the same day, Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch appointed Mr. Capers to that position in an interim capacity. Mr. Capers took the oath of office on October 16, 2015 and assumed the position of United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New on October 19, 2015. |
